MZAZA workshop: Balkan music

Fri 16 Oct 5-6pm
Venue 114
114 Sportsmans Parade
Bokarina

Learn a couple of folk tunes with MZAZA.  Greta Kelly, on violin and shah kaman (Middle-Eastern spike-fiddle), and John Robertson on guitar  will teach you a tune or two which demonstrate some of the unusual rhythms, ornaments of Balkan folk music.

Percussionists can learn some uneven rhythms with Malindi Morris, on darabuka (Turkish/Arabic hand percussion), and tapan (Turkish double-sided drum).   Bring your guitar, uke, stringed or wind instrument or hand percussion.

A week before the workshop MZAZA sends you audio recordings, sheet music and how-to videos if you'd like to familiarise yourself with the music before attending the workshop. On the day of the workshop please bring your instrument and recording device if you wish.
