Tackling Student Disengagement
This past year, many faculty members reported widespread disengagement in their classrooms. Students did not participate in discussions or group work. Many skipped class or did not do their assignments. And it was often unclear why. Were students suffering from mental-health issues? Did their social and academic skills atrophy during the past couple of years of online and masked teaching? Had the pandemic and other turmoil made coursework seem less important and meaningful to them? Did they have problems at home that pulled them away from classes?
Different challenges require different responses. We are curious how colleges, collectively, as well as individual departments and professors may address them this fall. Here's your chance to tell us what is being planned on your campus or classroom, as well as what you think needs to happen.
