As part of our continued commitment to eco-Judaism, Student Rabbi Faryn will run special workshop for Oseh Shalom: a 4-session tzitzit making workshop, where we follow the process of making tzitzit from sheep to finished product. We are looking for 10-20 participants in this program.

 But what are tzitzit? Tzitzit are an ancient technology that Jews have used to connect to the Divine, as described in the 3rd paragraph of the Shema (Numbers 15:37-41). How would they have been spun? What are the issues around making them? How does one get from sheep to tzitzit and a tallit anyway? This special opportunity will give us the chance to root ourselves in text and then get hands on as we explore these questions and build a more meaningful and personal relationship with this powerful technology.

The workshop will take place:
Mon. March 7th: Evening Text Study on Zoom, 7-8:30 p.m.
Sun. March 13th: Afternoon experiential  workshop with The Sheep to Shawl Experience, learning to process, spin and weave wool, 12-1:30 p.m.
Sun. April 24: Afternoon tzitzit tying to create your own tallit katan or tallit gadol, 12-1:30 p.m.
 
Optional: Sun. May 8: Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival
 
This workshop will take place entirely in-person due to its hands-on nature, except for the text study, which will take place on Zoom.
 
 As this workshop has costs in in the form of paying outside partners and purchasing materials, we will ask for a sliding scale donation between $20-$60 to cover costs, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
