At MMO, we are currently interviewing and hiring an energetic, creative, and loving Lead Teacher  to join our team. MMO strives to provide a Christian environment for young children while  giving families respite.  MMO is a program grown out of Messiah Lutheran Church’s mission to Know Jesus, Serve Jesus, Share Jesus.  

Job Summary

The Messiah Morning Out (MMO) Lead Teacher at Messiah Lutheran Church plans, promotes, directs, and evaluates MMO and related work as required. She/he ensures that MMO provides a safe, inviting, legally compliant environment for the care of program participants. The Lead Teacher schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15AM-1PM (with children present from 8:30AM-12:30PM)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Greet parents and children when they arrive at MMO. Communicate with parents when they return to pick up children regarding any problems that occurred during the day. Closely monitor the classroom and help provide instruction as a second teacher. Create and maintain a schedule of activities. Supervise, ensure safety, and well-being of the children and teachers at all times. Help with keeping diapers changed. Be a team player. Adhere to the MMO handbook and procedures. Engage with the children and families involved in MMO. Listen and resolve (as able) any needs or concerns in the classroom. Prepare and set up activities. Ensure that  the classroom, storage areas, and bathrooms are kept clean, neat, orderly, and sanitized. Ensure MMO area and equipment are kept in good order and repair. Promote parental and staff understanding of the growth and development of children. Participate in the development and assessment of annual goals and objectives for MMO. Initiate/lead MMO meetings/communication as needed. Purchase inventory supplies and equipment and ensure that these items are available as needed in MMO. Read and follow the Employee Handbook.

Additional Responsibilities

Conduct new employee orientation, including training on policies and procedures. Enroll children in MMO and maintain database. Coordinate MMO staffing schedule and communicate with MLC liaison. Call on substitute teachers when necessary. Directly supervise MMO staff. Prepare calendar and distribute to parents on monthly basis. Communicate with parents as to schedule changes. Record and report MMO staff hours for payroll purposes. Serve as liaison to church staff for MMO. Assist in Recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating MMO staff. Maintain/update program and staff records. Assist in preparing annual budget and other routine/special reports as indicated. Maintain MMO staff compliance regarding prevention of child abuse and misconduct and other training requirements as required by State licensing regulations (CPR training, First Aid, etc.). Adhere to all applicable standards as set by the State and county, including but not limited to maintaining staff ratios and reporting of Critical Incidents. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Childcare Experience. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Signed confidentiality agreement. Basic computer skills and experience. Pass a church standard background check (initial and periodic). First Aid Certification (done on annual basis). Child CPR Certification / Training (done on annual basis). Pass a drug test. Pass a TB test.

Physical Requirements

Position requires ability to lift, hold, and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances. Some mobility is also required for duties such as monitoring MMO staff and children in one room and/or on a playground. Position also requires work at a computer keyboard (typing, processing) and screen.
