Event Description
Claws Out is an individual coding competition for students ranging from Kindergarten to eighth grade. On April 24th from 1-4 PM, students will have 2-3 hours, following the introduction, to create and complete a scratch project competing for various awards. The programming language that will be used is Scratch, a block-based programing language on scratch.mit.edu meant to help children experience coding. Students' projects will be scored based on 5 categories: Efficiency, Creativity, Use of Code, Proposal, and Purpose. Using these scores and the judges' feedback the awards (Best UI, Best Animation, Best Game Design, Most Creative Project, Judge's Favorite, Least Errors, Most Efficient, Most Creative Proposal) will be assigned. Additionally, the awards will be split into three grade groups (K-3, 4-5, and 6-8) allowing for fair competition for the younger grades. Students will then log into zoom on April 25th at 3 PM to watch the awards ceremony. After the awards ceremony, an email will be sent out with the names of the winners of the awards for those who have missed the awards ceremony.
