We need you! Yes, you reading this. Our youth ministry, our parish, our students need you. Most recent surveys on young people point to the fact that the reason teenagers leave the Catholic faith is that they gradually slide away from the faith. It is reported that it is not necessarily a singular moment, but rather that our young people find that keeping the faith is not something that is possible, and it is almost impossible and so they drift away slowly. And this is why we need you! We need disciples of Jesus, committed members of His Church that love young people and want to share His love with others. Our students and young people need adults who have had an encounter with Christ and can show them that while it may not be easy, it is possible to be Catholic and to live within the invitation that Jesus has offered them. We need all kinds of help. Further, below you will find the different ways in which you can help. I encourage you to prayerfully consider how you might be called to serve. It does not matter whether or not you have a student in the program, we still need you. Our students need people who care about them, and are willing to listen and guide them.

Youth Ministry Volunteer Positions

CORE Team Member
Description: A CORE Team Member is a “front line” person that works on building relationships with our students through mentoring and discipleship. They are the core of our youth ministry team and are the people who make things happen. They assist primarily in helping to lead small groups, planning weekly youth group meetings and attending overnight events.
Responsibilities
1) Be a welcoming presence
2) Help to lead student small groups every week
3) Help to plan our weekly youth nights
4) Help in opening activities, presentations on topics of the faith, and closing activities
5) Help to monitor students and ensure they are not being a distraction to themselves or others
6) Help to clean surfaces and help out with other tasks as needed.
Expectations
1) Attend a once a year youth ministry training
2) Attend a once a month youth ministry hour of prayer and community dinner
3) Attend monthly formation and planning meetings
4) Attend one overnight retreat a year
5) Commit to attending weekly either SNL or Dive Deeper arriving 30 minutes early
6) Attend one-on-one meetings with youth minister at least once a month
7) Serve as adult mentors in the faith
8) Maintain EIM Compliance

Music Minister/Worship Minister
Description: The Music/Worship Minister is there to help facilitate the students encounter with Christ through music and prayer. They would help to lead worship and facilitate powerful prayer opportunities with the Sacraments.
Responsibilities
1) Help to prepare music every week for praise and worship directed towards the lesson
2) Help to prepare prayer exercises every week directed towards the lesson
3) Lead potential student musicians in playing for youth nights, retreats and other events
Expectations
1) Attend a once a year youth ministry training
2) Attend a once a month youth ministry hour of prayer and community dinner
3) Attend monthly formation and planning meetings
4) Attend SNL ever week arriving 30 minutes early
5) Attend one-on-one meetings with youth minister at least once a month
6) Serve as adult mentors in the faith
7) Maintain EIM Compliance

Hospitality Minister
Description: The hospitality ministers are one of the many “front line” opportunities to engage with our students week to week. They help to welcome our students as the first friendly adult faces they encounter when walking in. Responsibilities and expectations of the hospitality ministers can be found below:

3) Help to clean surfaces and help out with other tasks as needed.

3) Attend SNL every week arriving 30 minutes early
4) Attend one-on-one meetings with youth minister at least once a month
5) Serve as adult mentors in the faith
6) Maintain EIM Compliance

Confirmation Mentor
Description: The Confirmation Mentor is a person dedicated to walking with our students through the Confirmation process and meet with them regularly to help prepare them. The Confirmation mentors work in two-person teams (usually a student leader and adult leader) to lead students in small group discussions and to impart upon students habits for the eternal life.
Responsibilities
1) Be a welcoming presence
2) Help to lead Confirmation small groups at Confirmation meetings
3) Help to monitor students and ensure they are not being a distraction to themselves or others
4) Help to clean surfaces and help out with other tasks as needed.
5) Help to plan and execute a 3-day Confirmation retreat and a 1-day Confirmation day of prayer
Expectations
1) Attend a once a year youth ministry training
2) Attend a once a month youth ministry hour of prayer and community dinner
3) Attend Confirmation Meetings arriving 30 minutes early
4) Attend one-on-one meetings with youth minister at least once a month
5) Attend both the 3-day retreat and the 1-day of prayer
6) Serve as adult mentors in the faith
7) Maintain EIM Compliance

Adult Chaperones
Description: Adult Chaperones are the last of our “front line” people who help us in putting on or attending events that occur outside of the parish grounds. They would help us by attending overnight and off-site events. Our hope is that by having adult chaperones who are paired up with CORE Team Members that we can bring more students on away events and increase opportunities for them.
Responsibilities
1) Be a welcoming presence
2) Assist CORE Team members with monitoring students on overnight event or off site events
3) Help to transport students to off-site events
Expectations
1) Attend a once a year youth ministry training
2) Attend a once a month youth ministry hour of prayer and community dinner
3) Attend off-site event planning meetings
4) Serve as adult mentors in the faith
5) Maintain EIM Compliance

Food Coordinator
Description: The Food Coordinator helps with organizing food for our weekly Sunday night youth group and contacting families or ministries to help with obtaining food.
Responsibilities
1) Help to organize food sign ups for weekly events
2) Help to contact those providing food on the week of

Prayer Minister
Description: Prayer Ministers are the strong spiritual arm of our ministry. The hope is these volunteers continually pray for our students and our other volunteers so that the Lord works deeply in their lives and brings them further on the path of discipleship.
Responsibilities
1) Pray for our students each week by name
2) Pray for our volunteers each week by name
3) Organize additional times as a team to pray with another for our ministry and for our parish
