EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Expectations for a successful season:

Be on time for your piano lessons

✔ Commit to lessons for the duration of the semester and preferably the school year.

✔ Work through the inevitable ups and downs inherent in learning to play an instrument.

✔ Practice at home to make appropriate progress. Keep in mind that if there is a lack of progress, there is probably a lack of practice. As students advance, their lesson time will need to increase: therefore, their tuition will increase too.

Requirements:

✔ All students should have a regular access to an acoustic or digital piano with 88 keys at home. The 61 key keyboards sold at most large retail stores are not satisfactory for the continued study of piano. The acoustic and digital piano should be kept in good working order and acoustic pianos should be tuned at least once a year. Please refer to “ Ways to Maintain a Piano” brochure for more info.

✔ It is the parent's responsibility to purchase Piano Method Books and Metronome. However, your teacher will provide her own original teaching materials.

✔ For online lessons, all students should have regular access to an acoustic or digital piano with 88 keys; as well as access to the Internet; a tripod; a device such as a computer, tablet or phone. Lessons are offered via FaceTime, ZOOM, or Google Meet.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

Parental Support is an extremely important factor in musical training

Students whose parents take an active role in their progress tend to be more enthusiastic and productive. Create a quiet space where the student can practice, and schedule a time for practice each day. Parents should make music a natural thing in their home. Make family time at the piano daily activity. Children want to have fun with the instrument when they see that you are having fun as well. Ask them to play songs they know over and over again. Ask them to teach you how to play one or two songs at the piano. Be encouraging and positive with your criticism and feedback to your kids.

Refer to “How Long Should My Child Practice?” brochure for more info.

RECITALS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Recitals offer students a great sense of accomplishment and pride in their hard work. They also help them learn the importance of setting and achieving goals. Many opportunities for recitals and other music events occur every year. Every family will be informed of these opportunities through a periodic newsletter.

Students are required to participate in all activities including our Annual Piano Recital.

Refer to “Guides for Successful Piano Recital” brochure for more info.

DROPPING OFF

If dropping off lessons mid year is necessary, the decision should be made with thoughtful communication between parent, student, and teacher; so that lessons can end positively.

A 30-day written notice is required on the 1st of the month prior to discontinuing lessons for the following month.

No refunds are given for lessons that are not taken. Regrettably, students will be dismissed if any of the following circumstances occur: Uncooperative attitude, persistent absences, or failure to pay tuition on time.
