ACE Leadership High School Spring 2019 Exhibitions
Hello Community Partners!

You are invited to join us in judging ACE Leadership's Spring 2019 Exhibitions on June 18th, 19th, and 20th!

Judges not only help our students and teachers to gauge the students' level of mastery in a subject area, but they also provide an opportunity to mentor them in improving practices and developing as professionals. Judges will visit student presentations, ask questions, and complete a rubric for the students. Judges are often professionals within the subject field, but other community partners may determine mastery by how successfully a student can teach a person about the subject matter. You are welcome to choose any and all of the projects!

Please indicate on the form below if you are interested in attending any of the exhibitions. We will then follow up with the locations and rubrics of the exhibitions you are interested in. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for a brief orientation about the exhibitions. Thank you!

Mechanical Advantage (10:30-12:00 AM at ACE Leadership High School)
"How do machines make work easier?" In this project, students research history of heavy equipment, build models of simple mechanisms, explore the math and physics behind these machines, and ultimately design and build a machine that makes a construction task easier.
Mistakes in Architecture (1:00-3:30 PM at ACE Leadership High School)
"How do design, communication, and execution impact the success of a commercial building?" In this project, students analyze mistakes in the design build process. They will complete in depth analysis of various real-life architectural mistakes and explore how these mistakes impacted the cost of the project.
Architecture of War (1:00-3:30 PM at ACE Leadership High School)
This class focuses on the architecture of war, specifically in the rise and fall of the Spanish Empire. We look at the weapons that made Spain the richest and most powerful country on Earth and explore how it conquered some of the mightiest civilization on the planet and colonized the new world in places like New Mexico. Students write a series of research papers and make models and physical representations to inform their learning.

Pack It Up (5:00-6:30 PM at ACE Leadership High School)
In this project, students create a final design for "Math Manipulatives" toys and complete the production process. Students go through the process of packaging, labeling, and writing instructions for "Fraction Towers," all made in house here at ACE.
Thursday, June 20th, 2019
Moving Heat (10:30-12:00 AM at ACE Leadership High School)
"How can moving heat make us more employable?" In this project, students learn about how we move heat in order to create desired temperatures in the built environment. They explore the history of HVAC systems, current HVAC systems, and envision innovations in HVAC moving forward.
Stake It Out (10:30-12:00 AM at ACE Leadership High School)
This project helps students understand how surveying has evolved from ancient Babylonia to the modern world. Students construct and use ancient and historic surveying equipment to understand why buildings are located where they are located, and how surveying is constantly evolving with new technology.
Parks and Rec (1:00-3:30 PM at ACE Leadership High School)
"What's so great about playing outdoors?" In this project, students explore the function of parks and reasons why they are a valued asset to every urban community. Students will present their own urban park design and provide economic evaluation to support their proposal.
