Dunkeld, Birnam & District Community Development Trust (DBDCDT) are currently exploring the possibility of a Community Asset Transfer of the disused garages on a site just off North Car Park, Dunkeld. The site, which belongs to Perth & Kinross Council, is in a run-down state and is an area prone to anti-social behaviour. Taking the site into community ownership will allow for greater control over the site's development and will enable the Trust to access funding opportunities to invest in the infrastructure and services.
Dunkeld Artisan Village, a group of local artists and makers, have approached the Trust to ask for their assistance in taking on this area to secure land on which to build affordable workshop premises.
This project aligns with the priorities of one of the key themes laid out within the Community Action Plan (CAP) 2022 to 2027. Theme 6 of the CAP is concerned with developing a thriving local economy by supporting local businesses and start-ups; diversifying the economy and developing more varied employment opportunities; developing and supporting community enterprise and supporting responsible tourism development.
Our first ever Community Action Plan 2022-27 (CAP) was carried out by the PH8 community in the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods of community engagement were adapted during the lockdown situation – surveys were mainly online and stakeholder interviews were carried out by telephone or video call. Promotion and social media were key to getting strong participation. We are delighted that so many people and organisations were able to take part during these trying times. A testimony to our community spirit.
The Community Action Plan (2022 – 2027) identified six key strategic themes:
1. Safe and Active Travel
2. Housing for all
3. Connectivity, accessibility and care
4. Environment and a greener future
5. Community and culture
6. A thriving local economy
