Introduction: During the Transfiguration, when the voice in the cloud said "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him." That was God the Father's voice telling us that what Jesus had to say was important and that we needed to not only listen but to follow what he says. If you turn to page 4 in your Good News Gospel Weekly we are going to read about what Jesus told his disciples about praying. When you are done please answer the questions below.

The Lord's Prayer (Our Father): The Lord's Prayer is the prayer that Jesus taught us. It is a prayer that you should pray daily. With this prayer, we enter into communion with the Father and with Jesus, who has revealed him to us. Praying this prayer helps us to develop the will to become as humble and trusting as Jesus. In the Lord’s Prayer, we praise and glorify God and petition for what we need. There are seven petitions. The first three are addressed to God and draw us to him for his own sake: thy name, thy kingdom, thy will! The last four concern us and our needs that the Father fulfills: give us, forgive us, lead us not, deliver us. To this day, the Lord’s Prayer is the consummate prayer of the Church and is a significant part of the Church’s rites, the Sacraments of Christian Initiation, and the Mass. In your "Unit 4 Activity Bag" you will find some activities related to the Our Father. See if you can complete the Fill-in-the-Blank card without looking at the prayer. Then color in the tri-fold Our Father picture and put it on a table next to your bed as a reminder to pray often to God. The bookmarks make a perfect Lenten gift to color and give to someone to spread God's love. Helping you to fulfill one of the Lenten pillars or almsgiving (giving).
Lenten Calendar, Week 2 "Love": The season of Lent is a season of love. Jesus performed selfless acts of love throughout his ministry by healing, teaching, and giving of himself to the needy. His ultimate act of love was his death on the cross. He opened the gates of Heaven through this one noble deed so that we might have the opportunity to be happy with him for eternity. One good way to show appreciation for Jesus’ sacrifice is through deeds of love and charity. Your can do this by performing one little act of love each day of the Lenten season. First, you can begin by cutting out the letters on the front page of your Good News Gospel Weekly and arranging them in the proper spelling order on your Lenten Calendar, that was on the back page of last weeks lesson. Then, be sure to perform the loving acts associated with each letter. You will also find in your "Unit 4 Activity Bag" , a "Loving Acts Jar" (see picture below). You will find an assortment of sticks to be placed in the jar in your lesson packet labeled 2/28/21. Each one has a loving action that you can perform. When you get up in the morning, pull out one of the sticks at random and try to perform that act on that day. Once all the sticks have been pulled out you can put them back in the jar and start all over again - after all Lent is 40 days long!!
Great job! In this second week of Lent you have learned more about Jesus' life, seen how growth and change can take place in nature, with the caterpillar, found out that Jesus shone with God's glory at the Transfiguration, realized that God wants to share Heaven with us and recognized how important it is for us to pray the Lord's prayer. Wow! What a week. And what a great job! Have fun with your loving acts jar. I know as you do these little acts of love that you will feel better and closer to God. So go for it!!
