Pink Turf: Waitlist Form for the 2024 Season
Pink Turf Soccer League (PTSL) is an adult non-profit recreational soccer league open to members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies. Women (cis and trans), trans people, intersex people and Indigenous two-spirit people are all welcome in the league. PTSL understands trans to be an inclusive term which includes trans men, trans women and non-binary folks (including genderqueer and genderfluid people).

We’ve been a cornerstone of Toronto’s queer community since 1985, making us the longest continuously-running 2SLGBTQ+ soccer league in Canada. We play throughout the summer at Withrow Park in the city’s East End.

Pronouns:
Pronouns are the words used to refer to someone instead of saying their name. Everyone gets to decide which pronouns, work best for them, ie. which, if any, affirm who they are. Gender identity doesn’t equal pronouns - pronouns are personal. Two people can look similar or have the same gender identity but use different pronouns. Pronouns aren’t static - someone’s pronouns can change as they continue to become a truer version of themselves and for many other reasons. Not everyone uses pronouns- while there are lots of pronouns, some folks don’t feel like who they are is adequately expressed by any and will often go solely by their name. Pronouns aren’t “preferred” - they are a part of someone’s identity.

Pronouns on Jerseys:
Why is putting pronouns on our jerseys important? The main reason is because you can’t assume someone’s pronouns by looking at them! The league is diverse and people express their gender, including their pronouns, in so many different ways. Using someone’s correct pronouns is not only respectful but affirms and validates their identity! For many players, this league is an opportunity to enjoy soccer and be with community as their true selves rather than worry about being misgendered. We all have a role to play in making this a reality; sharing your pronouns and respecting others pronouns is one part of that!
I would like the following pronouns displayed on my jersey: *
I consent to Pink Turf Soccer League including my pronouns and chosen name on game sheets for the teams and referees and in communications to/from my Team Representative. *

COVID Policy
For our 2024 season, all members of the league are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated against COVID-19. However, we will not be enforcing vaccination this year, nor do we require proof of vaccination to be sent to us as we did for our 2022 season. Members who wish to wear PPE, social distance or take other safety measures at league games, practices and events are fully welcome to do so. All players are expected to do a self-assessment for COVID-19 prior to attending any and all league activities, and abstaining from attending if they have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
Prior to attending any and all Pink Turf Soccer League games, practices and events, I agree to do the self-assessment for COVID-19 on the Ontario Ministry of Health website. If I do not pass the assessment then I will not attend until I pass the assessment and do not have signs and symptoms of COVID-19. *
SKILL SELF-ASSESSMENT
The Pink Turf Collective tries to ensure our ten teams, which are selected via an anonymous draft each season, are balanced with players of all skill levels. In our experience, having balanced teams helps to promote our league values and improves league-wide spirit!

To assist the Collective, we ask players to provide a self-assessment of their skill level from 1-6. These numbers are not published or available to our members unless they are a Collective member, assisting with the new player assessment or team formation.

Your self-assessment in no way impacts your eligibility to play in the league or our desire to have you join us!!

We ask that ALL PLAYERS (both new AND returning) participate in a self-assessment, taking into account their current skill, knowledge and fitness levels, and ranking themselves accordingly in these three categories.

For self assessment, please consult the chart below.

NEW PLAYER SKILL ASSESSMENT
If this is your first year playing with us or you have not played with us in a few years (and to assist us with making the teams as balanced as possible), we ask that you attend a clinic with us. The New Player Clinic for the 2024 Season will be held on March 16, 2024 from 2pm - 6pm. Our Clinic will be held at Ballsports Polson Pier. The facility has paid parking and it is also accessible via TTC. If you can only attend part of the clinic please let us know and we will make arrangements to prioritize your assessment during that time.

The Clinic will take place on one of the turf fields in the covered dome. Please bring cleats or turf shoes, socks and shinguards. If you do not have these items, please let us know.

Additional information will be sent by email to all members who agree to attend below.

SUBSTITUTE GOALKEEPER POOL
As we frequently have teams without full-time goalkeepers and a lack of interested backup goalkeepers, we rely on volunteers to play in net for other teams in need. Substitute goalkeepers do not need to be full-time goalkeepers on their own team, but they do need to be comfortable with and have some experience in the position.

Volunteers will be contacted and scheduled by the Substitute Goalkeeper Coordinator throughout the season based on need.
Would you be interested in serving as a substitute goalkeeper for other teams this season?

PLAYER AVAILABILITY
Our season runs for 18 regular season games of 90 minutes each, and three tournament days of several shorter games. Games are played on long weekends, and the regular season runs from mid-May until mid-September.

NOTE: For waitlisted players, if the season has already started, please estimate roughly the percent of the remaining season you would be able to attend, rather than the specific number of games.
Of our 18 regular season games, how many do you realistically believe you will attend? *
TEAM REPRESENTATIVES
Each team will have a Team Representative instead of a captain. Team representatives are responsible for communicating on behalf of their team with the Collective, taking weekly attendance, managing the game sheets, being responsible for field setup and takedown (when playing the first or last game of the day), and serving as an encouraging and supportive ambassador of the league. Our Team Representatives have not yet been chosen.

Team Representatives who have been selected will be notified over the coming weeks. As in previous years, as a thank you, all Team Representatives will be refunded their registration fee, or 50% each for teams with two Co-Representatives sharing the work.

Team Representatives cannot also be referees.
If you are a returning player, are you interested in being considered as a Team Representative (or Co- Representative with your sign-up buddy)? *
REFEREE WITH US
This year we will continue the program of hiring and training referees from our own league/community.

Referees are provided with training, ongoing mentorship, and all necessary equipment. Referees are paid for each game they referee and are never asked to referee a game that their team is playing.

Referees cannot also be Team Representatives.
Would you be interested in refereeing with us this season?

Pink Turf Soccer League Membership Classes
As part of our not-for-profit governance, PTSL has two classes of membership for the league. Membership will not affect a player's participation in any soccer-related aspects of the league and is instead tied directly to participation in governance of PTSL as a non-profit. Those who select Class A membership will be expected to attend our Annual General Meeting held virtually on the evening of March 27th, 2024, as well as all other governance-related meetings that occur during both the season and the off-season as it relates to the running of our league as a non-profit corporation. Class A members are the only members who will be able to vote on corporate resolutions. Class B members are non-voting members of the league upon whom no expectations will be placed to attend meetings related to league governance. Fees are identical for both membership types. No preferential treatment of any kind will be given to either group. Class membership can be changed at any time by contacting ptslrecsoccer@gmail.com.

CONCUSSION CODE OF CONDUCT
Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety) came into effect on July 1, 2019, making it mandatory for sports organizations to ensure that athletes under the age of 26, as well as coaches, team trainers and officials, are made aware of the dangers of concussion, how it is sustained and how to recognize it.

Pink Turf has established a Concussion Code of Conduct* (mandatory by O.Reg. 161/19: General) that sets out rules of behaviour to support concussion prevention for all of our players. It is essential for everyone to adhere to these rules to establish a safe playing environment for all involved in the league.
