State Senator Mary Edly-Allen - District Office Internship Program

OVERVIEW: The office of State Senator Mary Edly-Allen is accepting applications for our Spring/Summer 2024 internship program in her district office in Grayslake. There are paid and volunteer opportunities, open to high school and college students living within the district who are interested in government, political science, and human services.

ABOUT THE OFFICE: State Senator Mary Edly-Allen represents the 31st State Senate District, which covers the areas from Antioch and Winthrop Harbor in the north to Round Lake and Libertyville in central Lake County. The Senator’s district office is responsible for helping constituents navigate government programs, engaging in community outreach, planning programming for the district, and completing policy research, among other responsibilities. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Constituent Services: Work with staff members to engage with constituents, help with case intake, and provide critical services. 

Compiling and Organizing Vital Resources: Assist in compiling state, and local resources to share with constituents. 

Event Planning and Staffing: Help plan, organize, advertise, and attend various events and meetings in the district. Assist with engagement efforts including canvassing. 

Policy Research: Research a topic area you are interested in and write a policy proposal to present to Senator Edly-Allen.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be detail-oriented, hardworking, self-motivated, and passionate about serving the community.  Strong writing and organizational skills are required. Prior service experience is preferred but not necessary. 

TIME AND PAY: Interns will work 10-20 hours per week throughout the duration of the internship. Exact schedule will be determined on a case by case basis.
