Workforce Development Interest Survey for Jersey County Businesses
Jersey Community High School is looking forward to partnering with local businesses through our Workforce Development Program.  Our goal is to place students in their future career field, giving them the experience they will need to contribute to our business community.  If this opportunity of providing meaningful employment and implement essential interests your business, please consider completing this brief survey.

I N T E R N S H I P S :  Some students will want short term experiences to help them discern their career path.  They will do semester long (or shorter) experiences with companies and professionals in fields.  The goal is student learning and experience in fields before post secondary education. This is a paid position, with the goal of giving the student experience in their future career field.  Internships can be coordinated by students or through our Workforce Development Coordinator and teacher. Students can be any age agreeable by the company.  Students may be excused from classes to attend the internship and earn high school credit for this experience.

A P P R E N T I C E S H I P S : Students will go to work for companies in fields where large gaps are seen between the current workforce and the demand for skilled work.  The company and school come together to provide a structured on-the-job training program for the student.  The student will also be enrolled in a curriculum at the high school level which complements on-the-job training.  Students can earn a credential while working in an apprenticeship.  More experience will help the student garner increases in wages.  These positions may lead to job offers or credit toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. Coordination of the apprenticeship will be done through the Career and Technical Education counselor. Students will be seniors in high school.  To be excused from class during the day for apprenticeship work and training, students must also be enrolled in a Cooperative Education class. School and company will have an agreement in place.

J O B   S H A D O W I N G : JCHS has students who are searching for their career path.  These students range in age from 9th grade (14) to 12th grade (18).  Students would come to your business and connect with an employee who shares an occupation of interest.  This could be a full day of shadowing--watching a day in the life or it could be an informational interview of that employee lasting up to a couple of hours.
