Vancouver Dyke March Feedback
*** The Vancouver Dyke March ***

The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society is a grassroots, nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization which, with love, energy, purpose, and sustainability, plans and produces the Annual Vancouver Dyke March and Festival.

The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival celebrates and centres the experiences of those whose gender identity or expression intersects with their sexual orientation to further marginalize them within the broader LGBTQIA2S+ community, including but not limited to trans and cisgender women and femmes, as well as other trans, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and non-binary individuals. We recognize that not all participants identify as dykes, but may prefer terms such as lesbian, queer, two-spirited, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, or aromantic, among others.

We strive to make our free and all-ages events accessible. We seek to honour our roots and acknowledge our history, good and bad, while allowing for change which responds to the dynamic and evolving needs of our communities. Our events aim to recharge us through inclusive celebration. We are friendly to all families and relationships, and especially those that challenge heterocentric norms, including singles, non-monogamous, non-normative, multi-parent, and multi-generational families, childless families, chosen families, and families of all other shapes and sizes. Within the Vancouver Dyke March and Festival, we strive to create space and visibility for those who are marginalized on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, abilities, class, immigration status, or age, and who do not always feel represented by the larger pride movement.

We would like to acknowledge that our event is held annually on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

*** We Are Listening ***

Last year, alongside other queer marches globally, the Vancouver Dyke March witnessed the greatly increased presence of a coordinated trans-exclusionary radical feminist hate group at our march. We anticipate this group will attend the march again in 2019. Other racist, MRA, and reactionary right wing groups have attended or threatened to attend the march in the past.

We are working to make the Vancouver Dyke March a safer, more inclusive space, and we are seeking input and assistance from our communities to debrief, reflect on, and strategize with regards to the ongoing TERF / SWERF fascism, violence, and oppression in our communities and in our march. By sending in this survey, or by attending our town hall organized jointly with the Coalition Against Trans Antagonism (CATA) on June 23, 2019 (www.facebook.com/events/1505717742893040), you can help us shape how we work to create a safer, more inclusive Dyke March.

As a grassroots, volunteer-run event, we may not be able to implement all suggestions made in response to this survey. Capacity-building is an important focus of our efforts to make the march a safer space. Interested folks are invited to sign up to volunteer at the Vancouver Dyke March on August 3, 2019, by filling out the form here: (https://forms.gle/Cu3tY38v47pHTP4N8).
