Water Department Intern Application
The Mayoral Internship Program (MIP) is designed to provide students with a passion for public service and community engagement with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience that benefits their future career development. Interns are placed in various departments depending on student interest and departmental needs. Students with a passion for engineering have the opportunity to work within the Water Department.

The internship is an eight-week unpaid internship. Interns are required to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and to be available to work the duration of the internship period.

Qualifications
Potential applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a current high school student who has completed their sophomore year prior to June 2021.
- Students must be residents of Cumberland, RI.
-Possess an interest in the engineering or environmental science fields.
-Students should be eager, curious, and flexible.
-Students must submit a completed application by 2pm on May 17th. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Sample Projects
All interns are treated as team members and will perform a variety of task, these projects include but are not limited to:
- Data entry
- Locating water service locations
- Shadowing at the pump stations
- Shadowing the water treatment process
