GBC members with current memberships are allowed to suggest and nominate someone for the GBC General Board seats that are opening in the upcoming year. Current GBC membership will also have the opportunity to vote on those open seats from the slate of candidates that are willing and able to serve on the General Board.

In order to serve on the General Board of the Georgia BBQ Championship, Inc. you must be a GBC member in good standing with the GBC, and have an active interest in the promotion, furthering, education, and general welfare of BBQ professionalism in the state of Georgia and elsewhere.

Serving on the General Board typically requires little time and effort for most members beyond showing up to cook, or advocating for upcoming contests that we sanction; promoting the GBC's agenda for membership drives; promoting upcoming GBC events (such as Throwdown or the GBC Bash, etc); attending a once a month conference call on Monday evenings; mentoring teams, organizers, or just the general public about our mission and what we aim to accomplish, etc; as well as other things that may require attention and/or promotion.

General Board Members must serve for at least one (1) year of their current two (2) year term in order to be eligible for nomination and election to the Executive Board, of which there are currently five (5) positions (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Executive Director). With the exception of Executive Director, all of the other four (4) Executive Board positions are nominated from within the current General Board members and elected by those General Board members. The outgoing President rolls into the Executive Director position as a way to keep institutional knowledge accessible to the Executive team and other board members.

This year there are four seat opening up, with four members rolling off. Those current board members rolling off are Jim Lloyd, Dave Amend, Betsy Allgood, and Jonathan Calhoun. Any of these current members may be re-nominated to serve another term, along with any other GBC member paid up in 2020, in good standing with the organization.
