The AmeriCorps/Maine RecoveryCorps Program, coordinated by Healthy Acadia, is a volunteer service program focused on expanding Recovery Coaching and other support services among individuals facing substance use disorders, with an emphasis on opioid use disorders in 7 northern /coastal Maine counties. The purpose is to support those seeking recovery, strengthen access to recovery resources in our communities and to improve recovery success. Those choosing the path of an AmeriCorps/RecoveryCorps member will be joining tens of thousands of other volunteers across our nation who serve under the AmeriCorps banner. In the spirit of AmeriCorps, members commit their time to address critical community needs and to "be the greater good." In addition to your role as a RecoveryCorps recovery coach, part of your service year will also be spent participating in AmeriCorps focused events. This is a volunteer service position. Benefits include a minimal stipend, an educational award, access to health benefits, potential for child care support, professional training in recovery coaching, disaster preparedness and volunteer management, and skill building in community resource development and outreach.

RecoveryCorps Coaches work towards improving conditions that lead to sustained outcomes for abstinence from substance use. This includes such tangible results as reducing housing, food, and medical insecurity, locating treatment resources, and improving access to transportation and community support. Members will attend a 4-day CCAR academy to train as a Recovery Coach, or show proof that they have already attended a CCAR approved academy. Each member will also support the recovery work in their community through such activities as organizing informational potlucks, public talks, and other community events, recruiting volunteers, and to support recovery work at their service site through developing local resources.

A Recovery Coach has to be a role model for others seeking recovery, and to honor all paths to recovery. Potential RecoveryCorps members must have at least one year of active involvement in their own recovery process, if they self-identify as being in personal recovery from substance use. People with a commitment to the recovery process who do not have personal histories of past drug or alcohol use are also encouraged to become recovery coaches, if they have strong, demonstrated personal experience with the recovery process.

Service site organizations are available across an eight-county service area (Aroostook, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo, and Washington). Each AmeriCorps/RecoveryCorps member will serve at a specific organization in one of these regions. We are currently seeking people to serve now through August 31, 2020, and have opportunities for both Full-time members (1700 hrs, approx. 35 hrs a week) and Part-time members (opportunities to serve from 8-10 hrs to 30 hrs per week).
