Welcome to the Inaugural Virginia Ice Theatre Summer Conservatory.  After a year of lockdowns and lots of changes, we are excited to be able to offer a fun reprieve from the summer heat, while having fun with your show skating personality.  
Over the course of 4 weekends we will be exploring all aspects of show skating from music interpretation and character development to advanced choreographic techniques and show tricks.

Each week will discover a unique aspect of show skating and you are welcome to join us for 1, 2, 3 or all 4 weekends.

Our program is geared towards freestyle skaters with a minimum level requirement of Basic 3.  Skaters will be divided by level within the program.


Week 1- July 24/25-  Music Interpretation and Character development.  We will focus on the rhythm and tonality and how that informs movement on the ice. We will learn how to create unique characters with different pieces of music

Week 2 July 31/Aug1-  Fundamentals of Choreography 101.  Duet and small groups. Learn basics of choreography in pairs and small group to focus on the intricacies of skating with others.

Week 3 Aug 7/8- Fundamentals of Choreography 102.  Large group ensemble skating.  Learn how different pieces of choreography can come together to form one large piece of a theatrical group.  Get the full theatrical experience by learning how a large ensemble performance comes together

Week 4 Aug 14/15- Show Tricks and Ensemble skating.  Increase your triple threat potential  with your skating skills, musical understanding, and unique show tricks.

During week 2 and 3 only, you will have the opportunity to help choreograph a short program.  In order to be considered for the online competition, you need to be a current USFS member and be Freeskate 4 or higher.  

4 weekend savings package: $600.   Per weekend rate: $155.   Walk ons welcome at an additional cost.
