Lincoln Funeral Collection - Harper's Weekly
The auction has ended.  Please Do Not Submit This Form.

Up for auction are seven (7) pages from different issues of the illustrated newspaper Harper's Weekly each depicting the national funeral for President Abraham Lincoln. Here is a list of the specific issues and images contained in this lot:

May 6, 1865 - "President Lincoln's Funeral Procession in Washington City" (1)
May 6, 1865 - "President Lincoln's Funeral - Service at the White House" (2 copies of this large centerfold image)
May 13, 1865 - "President Lincoln's Funeral - Removal of the Body from the City Hall to the Funeral Car, New York" (2 copies)
May 20, 1865 - "President Lincoln's Funeral - Building Erected for the Reception of his Remains at Cleveland, Ohio" and "President Lincoln's Funeral - The Catafalque at the City Hall, Chicago" (1)
May 27, 1865 - "President Lincoln's Funeral - Procession in Chicago, Illinois" and "President Lincoln's Funeral - Catafalque in the City Hall, Springfield, Illinois" (1)

The reverse of each of these pages contains articles and advertisements from these period newspapers. I especially enjoy the classifieds on one of the pages which contains advertisements for Lincoln memorial medals and even John Wilkes Booth photos for sale.

These pages are 157 years old and have understandable condition issues especially on the edges. A few of the pages have noticeable water staining in the corners. Still, these pages are in very good shape compared to other period papers. Please consult the images below carefully to judge each page's condition for yourself.

Rather than selling each page individually, I thought it was better for these to all be a single lot. Taken altogether, this lot depicts the national outpouring of grief that occurred as a result of Lincoln's death. For the right bid, you can own a great collection of period Lincoln funerary images all at once.
