CRMS School Improvement Council Parent Representative Election

This is an election to choose three parent representatives to the CRMS School Improvement
Council (SIC). The SIC is an advisory council to the principal that is focused on school
improvement. It is made up of parent, teacher, and community representatives. The principal
serves as an ex-officio member.
There are a total of seven parent candidates running for the two vacant parent representative
positions on the SIC. The candidates receiving the two highest vote totals will be elected to the
SIC for a two-year term. (If the parent will not have a student enrolled in CRMS next year, he/she
will be elected for a one-year term only.)

Carrie Glasscock: I've previously enjoyed serving as an SIC Committee Member for Mitchell Elementary School, and am a current SIC Committee Member for Harbor View Elementary as well.

Jody Longo: Interested in helping support and advocate for the school and teachers.

Nick Schumacher: As a father of 3 (with my 2 school-aged children in CCSD schools), I have a passion for making our public schools the best they can be for all of our students, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our family has lived on James Island for about 14 years. I consider myself to be resourceful, and well connected in the greater Charleston community. With a background in construction, real estate development, general business, and consulting, I think that I can bring a valuable skill set to the table. I have served on several non-profit boards and committees in the past, including in leadership roles, and I enjoy working collaboratively with other board members to leave each organization better than we found it. I approach volunteer boards with no ego or agenda, only to contribute to discussions to make sure the best ideas are vetted out and put in to play to help the group solve its problems, grow, and improve.

Cayton Keller: As a parent to 3, I get to hear all about the things that my children wish were different in their school and how they feel about their learning environment. I know some of their beliefs are that of a child’s mind but some of them are great. In addition to my own ideas, would implement my skills as a mother and as an intuitive thinker to be a valuable member to SIC. As a home maker, my primary focus in life is my children and how I can serve them and the community that they are growing in. I work great in a team setting and I would consider it an honor to serve any type of roll.

Bob Podolsky: With a daughter finishing CRMS this year and a son entering next year, a new building and principal, and pandemic challenges, this is a great time to be involved in making CRMS the best it can be. As an educator at the college level, I have faced some of the same challenges with budgets, school climate, remote instruction, etc. and feel I can contribute an academic perspective on these issues.

Tara Beldner: With three boys currently in 3rd and 5th grades at HVES and a 6th grader at CRMS my husband and I have a vested interest in not only the quality of education of our children but in the climate in which they are learning. I also believe that now more than ever it is vital that all who have the time, take the time to support our educators and school administrators to assure their needs are addressed. My boys were enrolled in a local private school for 4 years prior to coming to HVES in 2019 so I have acquired an interesting perspective regarding my children's educational and social/emotional experiences in two very different learning environments. I will say without hesitation that we have been very impressed with all aspects of our transition into the public school system from the quality teachers and administrators to the phenomenal communication we have experienced at every level.

Teri Johnson: I would like to be a part of the school and island community
