2023 Tax Season

Home Start’s VITA Program provides free tax preparation and filing support to low-to-moderate income individuals and families across San Diego. Last year, our VITA team prepared more than 1,100 tax returns, yielding nearly $1.75 million in refunds. Volunteers are the key to the VITA Program’s success.

All volunteers must complete required IRS & Home Start trainings & certifications. A commitment of 4 hours / week is required during tax season (now - April 2023). We have flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends, as well as virtual and socially distanced options.

Volunteering for the VITA Program is an extremely rewarding opportunity, and no experience is necessary. We even have opportunities that don’t involve preparing taxes!
