Architecture and Urbanism Traveling Course : Nepal
A Field based architectural theory programme

The SOUTH ASIAN ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM programme at SEA aims to interrogate and further push for ideas to think through architecture and urbanism in the region beyond those structured through debates around identity, informality, regionalism, poverty, outcomes of capitalist and neoliberal economies, and even as classicizing impulses trying to reclaim a past. This research module aims at  developing conceptual categories and frameworks through which a new critical understanding of architecture and urbanism in South Asia may be formulated.

As part of this programme SEA has initiated a series of traveling courses, two of which will be conducted each year. The first programme shall be held in Nepal this year during the first week of May. In Nepal we will spend 7 days in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lumbini, studying various architectural and urban typologies in the region through the particularities in architectural and urban tendencies. The course will include a series of walks, lectures by experts, along with rigorous readings and discussions.

ELIGIBILITY
The programme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of architecture. Independent researchers interested in architecture and urbanism are welcome to apply.

Inclusive of course and allied material costs, accommodation (twin sharing basis with breakfast), internal travel in Nepal, Travel to & fro from Nepal, other food costs and cost of tickets to monuments shall be borne separately by the participants.
