Introduction

The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) is inviting nominations of individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions in research and innovation in their areas of specialisation. The nominations submitted will be subjected to a thorough verification and assessment process by a panel of experts and ranked to decide the winning entries for each category. RCZ is calling for nominations for awards in any of the following theme areas:

Sustainable Environmental and Resource Management in Zimbabwe.
Promoting and Maintaining Good Health.
Social Sciences and Humanities.
National Security of Zimbabwe.

General award criteria

The following criteria will be used to decide the winning entries:

Originality/inventiveness;
Outcomes and possible impact to community or society in general;
Leadership in the field;
Breadth and/or depth of work;
Recognition/acknowledgement within the field of research or in the community;
Research Output (Contribution to peer reviewed journals/books, utility models, patents etc.); and
Outstanding achievement as a researcher/student/learner

The quality of the nomination and that of the supporting endorsement letters will also carry a significant weighting. The nomination and endorsements should be as specific, accurate, and as complete as possible. It is imperative that the true merits of the candidate be conveyed through this information. Please keep in mind that in some cases, those involved in the selection process may have no personal knowledge of the candidate or the research work being referred to and will lean heavily on the nomination documentation for the information they need to make accurate judgments.
