Mozart's "Cosi Fan' Tutti" (Opera Garnier)
One of Mozart's more controversial works, this opera begins with Ferrando and Guglielmo, two young officers discussing the fidelity of their fiancées (the sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella). The cynical Don Alfonso, overhearing the conversation, places a wager that the two women are not as faithful as they seem. The officer accept the bet then plot to show that their sweethearts will not stray. They pretend to go off to war, then come back disguised as Albanian soldiers.  In this modern production, the director uses music and dance to show the complexities of their emotions.
Ballet: Cendrillon (Cinderella) at the Théâtre de Châtelet
The Dutch National Ballet comes to Paris with its acclaimed production of Cendrillon. The choreography of Christopher Wheeldon has received numerous accolades and prizes. "In this ballet, faithful to Grimm’s vision, both dark and poetic, Cinderella is not necessarily a submissive victim, she carries her burden with her head high and with pride. And her half-sisters are not just stupid and mean. The choreographer does not forget the enchantment, essential to all stories, especially through his colorful costumes, his humor, the ball scene, the coach …" (from the Théâtre du Chatelet website). The performance will take place at the recently renovated Théâtre du Chatelet, a beautiful 19th century venue, the "third" Paris opera house.
