WSA Travel - Coach Application
WSA Coach Application – June 2023

We are in the midst of preparing for the upcoming Fall of 2023 and beyond. This, among other things, means figuring out our coach assignments for the upcoming soccer year. We have a great group of professional coaches involved with our association, who provide our teams with quality training and coaching, but we also rely on the help of trusted volunteer coaches to run our travel program successfully. We are proud to be a big part of the community and we encourage our community members to get involved in the association as well. With your help we can provide our members with the opportunity to have an amazing experience!

All teams are typically assigned 1 head and 1 or 2 assistant coaches. All teams will also be assigned a professional coach who will run most of the training.
Do note that as teams become older it is very common that the professional coach takes on a greater role with a team. This mean that the professional coach becomes the head coach and takes charge of all games and practice sessions.

All of our travel teams are scheduled to train on Saturdays. If a team is not assigned a full time professional coach, our parent coaches are asked to help run these sessions accordingly. At U9 & U10 specifically, all parent coaches will be provided with the support needed to run these sessions well. An assigned professional coach will provide weekly lesson plans and be present on the field each Saturday to help out the parent coaches in these age groups.

Our coaches play a big part in the success of all our programs. We therefore take our coach assignments very serious. A great coach can make sure the players have a fantastic experience. We look for volunteers who are great with kids. Individuals who can communicate well with and engage children. Most importantly of all, we seek adults who can put the needs of the children ahead of their own!

We will provide all coaches with the support needed to be successful. Training / education for the coaches will be provided to ensure every coach is familiar with our development philosophy and works in line with this philosophy. Anyone interested in becoming a coach is asked to fill out the below questionnaire. This will help us gather some basic information to help us with the coach assignments.

* Please note that filling out an application is no guarantee that you will be asked to coach a team.

** All parent coaches need to possess a state coaching certificate (formerly the NJYS F course) to be allowed on the sideline. This is mandated by the state association for youth soccer in NJ. If you do not have a state coaching certificate you need to attend a course, ran by NJ Youth Soccer.
