LSE Rent Strike Summer Term Sign-Up!
Over the course of this academic year, LSE's treatment of its students has been shockingly poor: rents have gone through the roof, students have been forced to stay in halls despite teaching having gone online, services we are paying for have been suspended without compensation, and the quality of our experience has been severely compromised by the pandemic.

Since the LSE is unwilling to listen to our legitimate concerns and address them in a reasonable manner, we have no other option but to refuse to make rent payments until we have been heard. The LSE Rent Strike has been active since the start of Lent Term, when a large number of students refused to pay their rent atthe January deadline. We have since formulated a list of demands to LSE management. We are now looking for more students to join our strike, so we stand stronger in pursuing these demands and can be better represent students' perspectives, needs and interests. You can do so by filling out this form and not paying your rent at the next payment date, which is on 2 May.

This form:
1. is to be filled out by LSE students residing in LSE halls or Sidney Webb House only
2. is meant for students who have not previously signed up to join the rent strike
3. is to be used by students willing to join our rent strike, but implies no obligation to withhold rent
4. will ask for information which will be used only to contact and inform you with regard to the strike

Before you sign up, it is important to know that the LSE has already agreed to meet our second demand, which is that there shall be no repercussions for rent strikers: if you join our strike, this will not affect your academic progress or the support you receive from your department.

Our demands are as follows:
1. A 30% reduction of rent for those choosing to live in LSE halls of residence
2. No repercussions for rent strikers
3. No-penalty contract releases and deposit refunds for all students
4. No staff redundancies
5. Proper quarantine food and mental health support (catering for all dietary requirements)
6. Open the Books: access to the university's finances regarding rent payments: where does the money go?
7. Student Democracy: there should be students involved in the management of the university's finances
8. Our license agreements should be turned into tenancy agreements
9. Solidarity with the LSESU: 1) A financial contribution from LSE towards our tuition fees (e.g. partial refund) 2) the LSE should lobby the government to help provide financial assistance and student loan write-offs for affected students
