APPLY FOR THE WORKSHOP BY SONYA LINDFORS

SATURDAY JULY 15th, 14:00 - 16:30
@ Podium Mozaïek

Working with F(r)ictions  – towards decolonial, speculative and feminist stages

Let’s talk about fictions and friction, speculative practices and about why intersectionality is so f***ing hard! Let’s talk about the ghosts haunting our stages and the power of the stage as a miracle making machine!

Sonya Lindfors (she/her) is an award winning Cameroonian – Finnish choreographer, facilitator and artistic director of antiracist and counterhegemonic art organisation UrbanApa (www.urbanapa.fi) in Helsinki. During the past years she has been busy with speculative and decolonial practices, summoning the potentiality of art and the stage to challenge the dominant narratives and power structures. In the work Cosmic Latte, presented in the context of Julidans, Lindfors and her team approach a speculative framework: What would a decolonial future look like? How could that be approached on stage?

In this 2,5 hour workshop-session participants will be invited to approach the topic at hand, fictions and frictions, by discussing, listening, writing and lightly moving. The workshop will include a small break. Participants are invited to engage in a level that is suitable for them.

The session is antiracist and feminist, please check out the ethical guidelines of Urban Apa.

More info about Cosmic Latte
The colour of the future? Cosmic Latte! In this radical performance, Cameroonian-Finnish choreographer Sonya Lindfors dreams of a world in which freedom, equality and black identity go hand in hand. Explore together with Afro-Finnish artists, pioneers in their field, an Afro-futuristic landscape featuring hip-hop, African cosmology, Bach and Sun Ra.

Cosmic Latte plays with the idea of an utopian future where present, future and past are present in a boundless, mysterious inbetween space. The logic of our thinking has changed, black and white are no longer opposites, but contain one another. The borders are malleable and the meanings mix with each other like liquids.

The title refers to the shade of white-beige that astronomers say is the average colour of the universe. The show hovers between performance, installation and movement landscape, building on what is known as Afrofuturism. This cultural movement, originally associated with science fiction, dreams of a place where freedom, equality, past, present and future come together.

Lindfors dreams away idiosyncratically in unsettling and sometimes deliciously humoristic scenes that juxtapose hip-hop, spoken word and contemporary dance. Cosmic Latte is the third in Lindfors' series of works on the theme of black identity on stage.
