Battle of the Books is a bowl-style trivia tournament that’s all about books, engaging hundreds of young minds every year! Dozens of teams in grades 3-6 compete against each other in inter-school battles and finals tournaments to determine a districtwide champion for all of Douglas County. Check out Douglas County Library Battle of the Books website: https://blogs.douglascountylibraries.org/battleofthebooks/ for more information and to see the book lists for this year. Please note that students are split into a 3th/4th grade team and a 5th/6th grade team.
Students love Battle of the Books, and it is a fabulous way to get them reading and talking about books with their friends! It is also a big commitment; if interested, your child should start reading now. Two books need to be read by September 21st, the date of our first meeting. Students should be prepared to read all 10 books on their grade level list and meet Wednesday mornings at ERE library from 8:00-8:30am. Since it is a team competition, we all rely on each other for success. This means that if a student is not completing the readings or participating in our meetings, we will have to ask them to leave our team.
Please note that any student wishing to participate in BOTB will be able to be on our team and compete up until the quarter finals. At that point we will have an in-house competition during one of our meetings to determine our team for the finals.
By completing this form you understand that your student will be able to participate in practice on Wednesday mornings each week at 8AM starting September 21st, participate in one to two Inter-school Battles and Elimination Rounds weekly during January through the beginning of March at the DCL Lone Tree branch; and if qualified, participate in the District Battle around Mid March. Douglas County Library battle schedule is to be determined.
Our school library has a few copies of most of the books. We will be ordering a few more. Your student may also check with their classroom teacher to see if they have a copy. The public library has all of these books, but keep in mind there are long waitlists. Many families elect to purchase the books.
Event Timing: Wednesday Mornings starting September 21st, 2021; and other various dates and times (we will take breaks during school holidays)
Event Address: Eagle Ridge Elementary School Library
