As a result of the missile shelling by Russians in Kramatorsk on June 27, 2023, Victoria Amelina, a Ukrainian writer, human rights defender, and founder of the New York Literary Festival in the Donetsk region, lost her life. She had intended to spend this year in Paris as a Harriman Institute Displaced Artist resident with the Columbia Global Centers | Paris and the Institute for Ideas and Imagination, where she would have completed her book.
To honor Victoria’s memory and her life dream to live and work in Paris, Eastern Circles, Ukrainian Institute in Paris and PEN Ukraine are organizing the memorial evening in her name on 13 November, at Columbia University of Paris. The evening will bring together Victoria’s friends and colleagues from PEN Ukraine Volodymyr Yermolenko, Tetyana Oharkova, Tetyana Teren, Sophia Chelyak, and Olha Sahaidak.
