The College of Computer Mathematical and Natural Sciences (CMNS) will host the second annual New Student Welcome & TerrapinSTRONG event on September 6, 2023.
The welcome is designed to introduce new students to UMD and CMNS; provide an opportunity for new students to meet each other; and affirm our mission, culture, and values as a diverse, proud, thoughtful, inclusive and accountable community of people that works to impact positively our globally-connected society.
The College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) TerrapinSTRONG Leaders will serve an important role this semester in welcoming and onboarding over 2000 new first-year and transfer undergraduate students. You will assist us with building an inclusive community by welcoming our students and ensuring they feel a sense of community and belonging in and at the University of Maryland.
The role of a CMNS TerrapinSTRONG Leader will be to:
** Attend the CMNS New Student Welcome & TerrapinSTRONG onboarding events
DATE: Wednesday, September 6, 2023
TIMES: 3:00pm-4:30pm and 6:00pm-7:30pm** Serve as a facilitator for a discussion group for 9 students at various points during the 1.5 hour session/s.
** Engage with our new undergraduate students in conversations about identity, diversity, and how to contribute to an inclusive UMD and CMNS community.
** Help our new students feel connected, that they are part of a community, and that they belong at UMD.
Event preparation: CMNS TerrapinSTRONG Leaders will be expected to complete an asynchronous online training (2-3 hours of work at your own pace) and be required to attend a 90-minute training (a recording will be provided for those unable to attend).
We welcome you to be a part of the CMNS TerrapinSTRONG Leaders who will contribute to a vibrant and welcoming space for all new UMD students this fall!
