Home and School Agreement
St. John’s C of E Primary School places Christian values at the heart of all we do.  We believe that successful partnership between the school, governors, the church, parents/carers and children helps each pupil to take full advantage of all that the school has to offer.  
We look forward to working together with you and your child, on a basis of mutual respect to promote high standards of work and behaviour.  
We want our children to become confident and enthusiastic learners who take pride and pleasure
in their own and others’ achievements and who follow the school Golden Rule which is to ‘Love One Another’.
We recognise that the education of your child is a venture based on co-operation and support, shared between you the parents and us the staff of the school.
We each have a part to play. We welcome your support, value your involvement and are pleased to see you in school.

The School will:
Curriculum:
Deliver a balanced and carefully planned curriculum which meets the needs of the individual child.
Ensure that every child is taught at an appropriately challenging level.
Maintain an attractive environment with good quality resources.
Set a planned programme of home activities.

Behaviour:
Set high expectations of behaviour and make sure children are familiar with the school Golden Rule to Love One Another.
Challenge any examples of inappropriate behaviour and work with parents/carers to support children in improving their behaviour.
Set a high standard of conduct through the role model provided.
Respect the views of children and parents acknowledging the different circumstances that exist.
Foster feelings of confidence, self-worth and belonging.

Equal Opportunities:
Enable all children to take part in all activities.
Celebrate the diverse backgrounds from which we come.
Use different cultural examples in teaching.
Ensure that bullying, racist, sexist and other discriminating behaviour is not tolerated.

Attendance and Punctuality:
Start promptly at 8.55am.
Promote regular attendance.
Investigate any examples of unexplained or persistent absenteeism.

Safety:
Provide a safe friendly atmosphere.
Ensure that safeguarding procedures are securely in place.
Contact the appropriate body at the earliest stage should there be any concerns regarding Child Protection about any child.
Look after children’s physical, social and emotional well-being at all times.
Administer medicines only with written permission.

Communication:
Actively welcome parents/carers into the life of the school.
Contact parents/carers as soon as possible if we have worries about children’s work or behaviour.
Ensure that teaching staff are available by mutual arrangement.
to discuss any concerns about child’s progress or welfare.
Give full and clear information about the curriculum, and each child’s progress, standards achieved, and development needs.
Communicate regularly and frequently with parents/carers about school matters.
Involve other professional services when necessary.

The Parent/Carer will:
Curriculum:
Support the school’s policies and guidelines.
Support my child’s learning by attending parents’ consultations, workshops, performances.
Support my child with his/her homework, ensuring it is completed on time and to a good standard.
Listen to my child read regularly and discuss books with him/her.

Behaviour:
Help my child to follow the school Golden Rule to Love One Another.
Encourage self-discipline and independence in my child.
Respect the professionals working in the school and their opinions.
Behave in a way that sets children a good example when I am on school premises.
Encourage my child to care for school property both at school and at home.

Equal opportunities:
Help my child understand that everyone is of equal importance.
Encourage my child to appreciate and respect the views and religions of others.
Promote values to my child which ensure he/she knows that bullying, racist, sexist and other discriminating behaviour is not tolerated.

Attendance and Punctuality:
Ensure that my child attends school every day unless there is a very good reason (as is my legal responsibility).
See that my child arrives at school on time and is collected promptly at the end of the school day.
Contact the school immediately if my child is absent or arrangements for collection have changed.

Safety:
Ensure my child wears his/her school uniform smartly.
Teach my child about personal hygiene.
Make sure the school always has an up to date emergency contact number;
Keep my child at home when he/she is unwell.
Attend appointments affecting my child’s health and education.

Communication:
Raise any personal concerns with the school directly at the earliest possible opportunity and ensure that any published comments made about the school are respectful particularly on the internet/social media.

Let the school know about any issues that may affect my child’s welfare or progress at school.
Reply promptly to any school correspondence.
