What: COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION - Exploring Opportunities for the Physical Therapy Profession
Jean Fitzpatrick Timmerberg, PT, PhD, MHS, OCS
Associate Director, Programs in Physical Therapy at Columbia University Irving Medical Center
Dr. Timmerberg's primary areas of teaching and research are in orthopedics, sports medicine, injury prevention, as well as physical therapist education. She currently serves as the Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Clinical Education in Physical Therapy, is the Co- Chair of the Education Leadership Partnership (ELP) Outcomes Strategy Group, is a member of the ELP Education Research Strategy Subgroup and has served as the Chair of the ACAPT's Student Readiness Task Panel
Objectives:
1. Discuss relevant terminology related to competency based education (CBE) and why is such a framework being explored
2. Discuss concerns and potential opportunities if the profession of physical therapy implemented such a model
3. Describe the function of the Education Leadership Partnership (ELP), outline its's comprehensive education strategic planning process including the Outcomes Strategy Group.
