Was mixed venous gas done? *
If the patient is coming back from heart surgery, they typically have a Swan in. The therapist draws an ABG and Mixed Venous gas.  We draw the mixed venous gas to calibrate the Swan Ganz monitor's mixed venous 02.
Draw Time *
Did the Sv02 value increase by more then 2% when drawing the mixed venous sample? When drawing a mixed venous sample you have to assure you did not draw the sample to fast because then you will be getting blood from the lungs (oxygenated by the lungs).  To make sure you are not drawing to fast, watch the Sv02 value and if it increases by 2%, then you are drawing to fast.  It should take you about a minute to draw this sample.
Mixed Venous 02 *
Record.  Normal is about 40 mmHg
Mixed Venous C02 *
Record.  Normal is about 46 mmHg
Mixed Venous pH *
Record.  Normal is about 7.35
Mixed Venous Sv02 *
Record.  Normal is about 75%
Mixed Venous Hb *
Record.  Normal is about 14g.  This should be the same as the ABG Hb.  If it is not within .2 g then the samples typically have to be rerun.  Make sure each individual sample is mixed appropriately.
Mixed Venous Content *
Record.  Normal is about  15%.
Arterial/Mixed Venous content difference. *
Record.  Normal is about  Vol 5%.   Arterial (20%) minute Mixed Venous (15%). If the difference to less then 5% this typically means the CO is high because the blood is traveling so fast through the lungs, the blood does not have enough time to pick up 02.
Clean Up *
Did you clean up the mess you made and assured the patient was safe?
Notify *
Did you notify the nurse/M.D. of the results and an make the appropriate respiratory therapy changes?
