ISD Online Learning Application - Liberty High School (Fall 2021)

Issaquah School District graduation requirements are established to provide each student with the best possible educational experiences and to comply with Washington State statutes. As explained in Regulation 2410P, the Issaquah School District may grant up to 4 credits toward high school graduation requirements or required minimum college admissions courses taken outside of the Issaquah School District provided:

1. The request is approved by the school counselor and Online Learning Administrator in writing prior to the student’s participation in the program. Approval cannot be granted retroactively.
2. The course meets all applicable state standards as required by WAC 180-51-068, WAC 392-410-310 and -340, and WAC 392-121-182, and is from a Washington State accredited institution or is otherwise an ISD approved program.
3. The course complies with all applicable standards and procedures established under Regulation 2410 – High School Graduation Requirements, Regulation 2024 – Online Learning, and Regulation 2255 – Alternative Learning Experience Programs.
4. Per District Regulation 2410P, for purposes of graduation no more than 50% of a subject area requirement, no more than 2 credits in one school year, and no more than 4 credits overall can be from outside courses of study and online learning.

ISD Online Learning Information
Sequencing:
- If students are taking the first semester of a year-long class, they will finish in the spring or summer.
- If students are taking the second semester of a year-long class, they either started in the spring or summer.
- Students can take a semester-long class for fall.

Tuition:
-There is no tuition cost for a course that you take within your school schedule regardless of whether the course is taken on or off-campus.
-If you are taking the class beyond your school schedule, the tuition cost is $300 per course.

Coursework:
-Students can expect to spend a minimum of 4 hours per week working on their online course. Courses cover 18 weeks of curriculum just like a class offered in a traditional classroom setting.

Testing:
All Courses (Regular, Prescriptives, Honors and AP): CSTs (Computer Scored Tests) will be taken remotely during designated testing sessions with a parent/guardian proctor. Please do not sign up for a course if you and/or your parent/guardian is unable to proctor during any one of these sessions.

Wednesdays: 8AM - 9:30AM
Thursdays: 4:30PM - 6PM

AP Courses: In addition to taking CSTs remotely, students enrolled in an AP course will be required to take TSTs (Teacher Scored Tests) in person. Transportation is not provided. Please do not sign up for a course if you are unable test in person during one of the sessions below.

Credit Recovery:
Students who are taking this course for 'Credit Recovery' as an off campus (ALE) students are required to have a meeting with the Online Learning Coordinator and/or their Online Learning Mentor to review program expectations prior to enrollment. Students will also set up a weekly support session via Zoom that they will attend with their mentor when the course begins.

Enrollment in Online Course (s):
If a student has failed an online course, has consistently failed to follow off campus (ALE) Online Learning participation requirements, and/or has consistently failed to follow Online Learning policies they will be unable to enroll in future online courses. Please contact your counselor to discuss other options.

Students who are Credit Recovery and/or have failed a previous Online Learning course are required to start their class with a weekly support session via Zoom. Please read our ALE Program Requirements on our Fall 2021 Application page. Students who are taking an off campus Online Learning course are not allowed to be on campus during that scheduled time.

Please read each statement (A-S) below.
A) Any required textbooks, materials, or lab supplies that are not available at the school are the student's responsibility to acquire.

B) Students are limited to 4 credits toward graduation requirements through a WA State outside accredited program or Online Learning course, a maximum of 2 credits in a school year, and no more than 50% of any subject area requirement.

C) Once approved, students will be enrolled in the course for the term indicated.

D) Students will receive the actual course grade earned (A-F) on their high school transcript.

E) Students taking a prescriptive course (Pass/Fail) will receive a "P" or "F" on their transcript. (Note: Prescriptive courses are not NCAA eligible).

F) It is the student's responsibility to verify if a course meets NCAA and college admissions requirements. Not all courses are NCAA approved.

G) For courses taken more than once to improve a grade, per WAC 392-415-055 and WAC 392-415-070, all grades will remain on the high school transcript, but the student's GPA may be calculated using only the highest grade. See Student Handbook for more information on grade improvement.

H) In the event a student drops a course during the Fall or Spring term, the grade for the course is entered as follows:  i. Courses dropped on or prior to the 10th day of the course do not appear on a student's academic record. ii. Courses dropped between the 11th day and the 20th day (inclusive) of the course appear as a 'W' on the student's academic record.  iii. Courses dropped on or after the 21st day of the course appear as an 'F' on the student's academic record.

I) Courses must be completed by the term end dates. However, the school counselor may require seniors to complete their course by a specific earlier date to be cleared to graduate.

J) Students who are taking this course off-campus as part of the regular school day are required to have weekly communication with their Online Learning mentor. Students not following weekly communication requirements for Online Learning will be placed on-campus at the District Administration Office for additional support or attend Zoom Support Session with an Online Learning Mentor. Please see Off Campus (ALE) guidelines and requirements on our Fall 2021 Application page for more details.

K) Students who are taking this course off-campus as part of the regular school day are required to have Monthly Progress Evaluations by their Online Learning Mentor. Students who receive an "Unsatisfactory" Monthly Progress Review will be placed on campus at the District Administration Office for additional support or will be required to attend a weekly Zoom Support Session with Online Learning Mentor. Please see Off Campus (ALE) guidelines and requirements on our Fall 2021 Application page for more details.

L) Students must complete a self-guided orientation and log in to their course within 10 days of the start date or enrollment will be canceled.

M) Unit tests and final tests will be proctored. They must be taken during designated Issaquah School District Online Learning testing sessions.

N) Progress and final grades for online courses will be entered into the student system according to the district grading calendar. Students are expected to work consistently in the online course and stay on schedule. This is also referenced in the student-athletic handbook.

O) Refund policy for families that are paying the course fee (course taken in addition to the full schedule): If a course is dropped prior to the course start date, a fee will not be assessed. Courses dropped on or after the start date may receive a partial refund of the course fee.

P) IEP At a Glance or 504 Plans will be shared with the online provider.

Q) Students who are taking this course for 'Credit Recovery' as an off campus (ALE) students are required to have a meeting with the Online Learning Coordinator and/or their Online Learning Mentor to review program expectations. Students will also set up a weekly support session via Zoom that they will attend with their mentor.

R) If a student fails an online course, consistently fails to follow off campus (ALE) Online Learning participation requirements, and/or consistently fails to follow Online Learning policies they will be unable to enroll in future online courses.

S) Not logging into a course or not making progress for more than 20 days may result in the student being dropped from the course with an 'F'' and being unable to enroll in future online courses.
