NAF Code of Conduct - Students
NAF Academy Code of Conduct

The Burbank Unified School District Business, Engineering, and Medical Academies are members of the national NAF pathway. Our expectations reflect the industry standards expected for performance and attendance. We expect academy students to lead by example and represent the school district with integrity. Students are expected to be their best in the classroom, on field trips, with guest speakers, and at their internship site.

NAF Academy Courses
Business Academy:
Algebra 1, Accounting/Marketing, Financial Planning/Professional Ethics, NAF Economics/Government

Engineering Academy:
Engineering I, Intro to Computer Science or AP Computer Science, Physics or AP Physics, Engineering II

Grades:
Academy students must successfully complete all academy courses with a C or better or successfully complete alternative college courses with prior approval from the NAF academy director. Students who receive a D or lower at semester will be put on probation and may be dropped from the academy program.

Citizenship:
The academy student citizenship grade is based on classroom behavior, participation, preparation, academic honesty, tardy marks, and unexcused absences. Individual academy teachers will define appropriate behavior, participation, and preparation appropriate for their classroom. The academy does not tolerate violations of the academic honest policy or school suspensions. Students who receive an unsatisfactory citizenship mark at the semester in any academy class, violate the BUSD Academic Honesty policy, or are suspended from school will not be eligible to wear graduation cords and may be dropped from the academy program.

Attendance:
NAF academies will follow the BUSD Attendance and Tardy Policy. Academy students will receive a U in citizenship if they exceed 7 unexcused absences and/or 7 unexcused tardy marks in any academy class.

Internship:
Students are required to complete an 80-hour internship and submit their completed portfolio by the Friday before spring break of their senior year (March 18 for the class of 2022.) Students are required to complete an online portfolio/Google site.  Check our NAF website for details and instructions. The internship can be 80 hours at one location or 40 hours at two locations. Students must pass the senior internship and portfolio assignment in order to be eligible for certification, stoles, and/or cords. The internship hours are above and beyond service hours and cannot count towards service hours.  Paid and unpaid hours count towards NAFTrack Certification for class of 2022 and 2023.  (*Note:  Class of 2024 and beyond may have to go back to the original NAF internship requirements of a paid 120-hour experience.)
