Thank you for your interest in serving on an NCCFT Committee.  The committees below are by appointment, not election.  Our union will be stronger with your involvement; indeed, we have many tasks that simply cannot be accomplished without members' help.  Please provide your NCC email and private email in the text box for the Committee which you are interested in serving.

Political Action Sub-Committee of Nassau Residents  
This sub-committee of the broader PAC (see below) would especially work on building connections with the Nassau Community.  Even just volunteering for one such event would be terrific.

Political Action Committee
This committee will serve as liaison with the political committees established by the New York State United Teachers affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers. It will inform local politicians of the NCCFT views on issues affecting Nassau Community College. It will recommend and pursue political action designed to advance the interests of the NCCFT. All committee action shall be subject to review and approval by the Executive Committee.   

Some examples of PAC actions could include:  organizing letter writing in your department, allowing student student clubs to speak in your class, organizing attendance at a rally, parade, BoT or Nassau County legislature (even if you don't live in Nassau), helping to organize an event, or donating your skills to help pull off an event/ action successfully.  If you have special skills such as in photography, videography, art, etc. please let us know!  We would love to create special NCCFT banners, a campaign video, etc.

Fringe Benefits
This committee brings to the notice of the Executive Committee ways of maximizing contractual and non-contractual fringe benefits.  It shall evaluate proposals made by outside brokers and make recommendations to the Executive Committee.  

Dental and vision benefits are examples of some of the fringe benefits this group may assess.

"Junior" Faculty Hired after May 2014/ Membership/ Early Career Committee
Unfortunately, our membership became stratified in the 2013-2017 contract when hires after this date were asked to contribute to their health insurance. This committee is dedicated to raising awareness of the needs of this group and improving the compensation of this group.

Health and Safety
This committee brings to the notice of the Executive Committee health and safety matters of concern to the members. The committee will work with other campus health and safety representatives. The committee will recommend solutions to health and safety problems on campus. Committee members will be encouraged to attend off campus health and safety conferences and seminars. 

Some recent concerns of this committee have included: mold and leaks in buildings (especially cluster buildings) and  chipping leaded paint (Bradley Hall).

Retirement
This committee will bring to the notice of the Executive Committee issues pertaining to the retirement such as state retirement incentives, contractual benefits and early retirement incentives. The committee will maintain a retirement booklet which will be distributed to all faculty. The committee will schedule annual retirement and social security seminars.
Special Events
This committee plans and hosts all social events such as end of the semester luncheons, dinner/ operetta and NCCFT retirement parties. They will hire caterers, plan menus and purchase party supplies.
Diversity 
This committee's focus is on suggesting to the Executive Committee policies that will help the College and Union better serve our diverse student body.
