'Math P' is an intellectually enriching after-school program for any Kinder -> 5th grade students interested in playing games and subsequently participating in a year-end National Tournament held in Austin/Cedar Park/Round Rock.

Why?

Math Pentathlon has been around since 1979, mainly in IN, MI and TX. Its purpose is to help improve students’ arithmetic and spatial pattern recognition, logical reasoning, and numeric problem solving skills all while playing unique and fun games against equally skilled competitors, with an added emphasis on good sportsmanship.

When/Where

Practices are every other Thursday starting on Nov 3rd. At 2:50, all MathP participants will meet for practice in the cafeteria. Practice will end at 4:00 pm and all students will be walked to either: a) YMCA, b) Front Doors to walk/bike home, or c) to the bus lane for car rider pick up. A list will be maintained for the three types and so any exceptions to this would need to be communicated to naumannmathp@gmail.com before practice begins that day. Parents picking up can expect kids to be out shortly after 4:00.

How Much

The Dues will be $20 this year. They will be paid to PTA and should be paid before December. You will be responsible for registering your child for the tournament in December, paid to the Math Pentathlon Org. The tournament fee last year was $45. Only students who are registered for tournament will continue practicing in January. There are limited scholarships available. Please reach out to naumannmathp@gmail.com as soon as possible if you are in need. We want to make sure all students who want to participate are able to.

Getting Involved

Naumann PTA, including Math P, is 100% volunteer run. This means that if your student becomes a member of the Math P club you will be responsible for volunteering at at least one practice. We are also required to 2 monitors for every 3 students at the tournament. Part of your responsibility will be learning at least one game, as you will need to monitor the game at tournament. We will also need a head coach and possibly a few assistant coaches for each division. If you love games, hanging out with awesome kids and are looking to be a little more involved - this is for you! You will have support from current and previous coaches and there will be training opportunities.
