Available Roles
Main Casters - The primary voices of a VRML stream. The main casters are responsible for calling and analyzing the action (play-by-play or color commentary), keeping the streams lively, and engaging with the viewers when able.

Sideline Casters - A supplemental "third caster" role, which can encompass anything from between-round analysis, to reporting on interesting stats, stories & quotes, pre or post-game interviews, engaging the Twitch viewers, etc. Main casters can easily slide into this spot too when needed, but this is also a good role for those who'd like to be a part of the stream team, but don't want to take on the heavier roles of main caster or camera operator.

Camera Operators - In charge of stream operations, including hosting the stream itself, controlling the spectator camera, managing the audio, and queuing up the visual overlays that appear for the stream.

Creators - See Below
Wanted: Creators
Interested in showcasing your personal Echo-related content, or helping create unique content for the VRML streams, website, or social media pages?

Whether it's editing videos, clipping or compiling highlights, conducting off-stream interviews, gathering info for the tickers and info cards, or other production-related aspects that don't quite fit the the standard criteria, we're happy to field inquiries from those who are interested in regularly contributing towards the production, to join the VRML team in a more official capacity.

For independent or more casual community creators, we're also happy to feature your content or promote your channels, teams, etc. during VRML streams with credit and links when sent to us with permission to showcase. Just reach out to Palidore (#2593) on Discord with any questions or submissions!

- A basic familiarity with tech and troubleshooting
- A stable internet connection
- A microphone (any quality)
- Multiple monitors and/or secondary screens
- Looking to stream on at least a semi-regular basis. No hard numbers requirement, but camera operators who are inactive for 6+ weeks without communication are subject to role removal (can still reapply in future).

Creators:
- Age 13+
- Music used in content submissions is royalty-free
Since the "creators" role is pretty broad, and it's an off-stream role, the requirements are looser, and based more on what applicants are capable of doing.

Frequently Asked Questions
"Can I cast or cam for VRML while also competing on an active team?"
- Yes, not a problem!

"Do I need casting or production experience in order to cast for VRML?"
- Nope! Many of our casters had minimal-to-no experience prior to joining VRML. All casters will be briefed on casting guidelines and protocols before doing their first casts. Those with less experience or who need additional practice will be able to cast alongside more experienced partners, and cast on lower-pressure matches on our secondary channels to better ease into the casting flow.

"Is there a minimum number of matches I'm required to cast during a season?"
- There's not a set number, and we don't want people feeling obligated. It's volunteer after all, so we want casters who do it because they enjoy it! With that said, for the sake of organization, we do request that some level of activity is maintained. One cast is only 30-40 minutes of commitment, so we think averaging 1 cast for each week of regular season is a reasonable target. It's not a hard-committal though, and we understand there'll be some weeks that you're simply unable to cast. No problem, as long as some effort is put in throughout the season. Casters who are inactive for more than 6 weeks without communication will be subject to role removal, but are always welcome to reapply.

"Do I get compensated for casting in VRML?"
- VRML is a grassroots organization that operates on a volunteer basis. So while we're currently unable to offer paid positions, the revenue generated from the official VRML Echo Arena Twitch channels do get distributed to our casters after each season, based on casting frequency. Additionally, as we secure opportunities for sponsored products or paid events, we funnel those directly to our casters as well, and certainly aim to further that as the scene continues to grow!

"If I'm part of the VRML Production Team, am I still allowed to cast for events and organizations outside of VRML?"
- Yes, not an issue! You may not, however, use or redistribute any VRML stream assets provided to you outside of the officially-sanctioned channels, unless you receive explicit permission from the VRML Board stating otherwise. The specifics are covered in an Undertaking Agreement that accepted applicants (or their parents/legal guardians) will be asked to read and sign prior to being onboarded.

"What if I don't have any sample videos to submit in my application?"
- Consider recording a demo of yourself casting/camming public matches, scrimmages, or even a (muted) VRML VOD. While prior experience isn't a requirement to be accepted into the production team, we'd still like to have a baseline idea of applicants' proficiency levels, voice & microphone quality, etc.

Why do you want to join the VRML Production Team, and what do you think you'll bring to the role? *
During the season, how often do you plan on casting, or otherwise contributing, on average? *
Don't worry, this isn't a considered a hard-commitment! We just want a rough estimation on what to anticipate from new applicants.
Do you have any casting, production, or other media-related experience outside of VRML? Describe, if so.
If not, no problem! Prior experience isn't required to cast for VRML. We're happy to train and ease in less-experienced casters alongside more experienced casting partners, and on lower-pressure casts.
Paste links to any production samples or reels that demonstrate your casting, camerawork, or other skills relevant to the role(s) you're applying for. This doesn't need to be extensive; just enough to give us an idea of your style and abilities. Important for any speaking roles.
This helps us gauge vocals & mic quality in casters, and smoothness and spectator familiarity for camera ops. For less-experienced applicants, submitting samples is a good indicator that the applicant is willing to put in some extra effort towards participating and learning. A lack of sample material makes it difficult to accept otherwise unknown applicants with confidence. This step is optional, however applications that include samples will generally receive higher consideration.
