Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School (RMLHS) exists to train youth as disciples of Christ for lifelong service to their Savior. To equip our students to serve Christ in this information age, RMLHS offers students access to our computer network to facilitate learning, conduct research, and communicate with others. Unfortunately, while technology can be used to serve Christ, it can also be used for sin. Therefore, with this Agreement, students consent to act and use the RMLHS computer network in a responsible, mature, and Christian manner.

Please note that access to the RMLHS computer network is a privilege, not a right. Guidelines for acceptable use, which benefit and protect both RMLHS and the student, are given below. Any violation of our computer network may lead loss of computer network privileges, to suspension, to expulsion, or to legal action. RMLHS administration and/or staff will determine what is a violation of acceptable use.

PLEASE REVIEW WITH YOUR STUDENT and sign this agreement to initiate RMLHS computer network use. RMLHS reserves the right to modify this Agreement for Acceptable Computer Network Use at any time without warning.

Guidelines

1. General
a) During school hours, the computer network is to be used for educational purposes only. Outside school hours, educational uses of the computer network take precedence.
b) The computer network may never be used for commercial purposes (buying or selling goods or services).
c) Passwords are private. Do not share your passwords or obtain and use the passwords of others.
d) Students are forbidden to physically vandalize the computer network or other students' laptops in any way, including dismantling a computer, peripheral, or network device. Students and their parents/guardians will be responsible for their damage to the computer network including replacement of school-owned hardware and/or software, student-owned hardware and/or software, or technician time.
e) Students are asked to notify the RMLHS administration or staff of any security problems or damage to the computer network.
f) RMLHS is not liable for lost, damaged, inaccurate, or unavailable information due to technical or other difficulties.

2. Computer Hardware
a) Students are required to bring a their own Chromebook laptop to every class.
b) Storage devices for file transfer, such as USB flash drives, are acceptable.
c) Printers, if needed, are for classroom-related work only.

3. Computer Software
a) Students will be given a RMLHS.NET account powered by Google, allowing them access to e-mail, storage space, office applications, calendar, apps, etc.
· Students are expected to abide by e-mail etiquette, including but not limited to: use of appropriate language; no defamatory, abusive, threatening, or violent language or material; and no transmission of copyrighted or unlawful material (including music, movies, and malware).
· Students are responsible for any and all messages and attachments sent using their e-mail address.
· RMLHS.NET e-mail is not private; RMLHS administration and staff has access to all messages if necessary.
b) Respect all federal copyright and software licensing agreements. Unauthorized copying of software or information (e.g. music, movies) is illegal.
c) Students are not to create and/or spread computer viruses, spyware, or other malware.

4. Intranet
a) Students are not permitted to trespass into, to tamper with, or to delete folders/files belonging to other people.
b) RMLHS staff may review any file on the computer network for any reason.
c) No student is allowed access to faculty computers without supervision.
d) Students will not attempt to log in as administrator or teacher. They will not tamper with RMLHS administrative or grade book files.
e) Students should not attempt to disrupt, 'hack' into, or shut down the RMLHS network in any way.

5. Internet
a) Internet access should have an educational purpose.
b) All internet requests are filtered. The retrieval system blocks access to many non-Christian sites, but not all internet activity can be monitored. The student is ultimately responsible for her/her own actions.
c) Students should not reveal their own or any other personal address, phone number, or credit card information. They should not misrepresent themselves or their age.
d) Social networking, blogging, chatting, instant/text messaging and the like are not allowed during class. (Note that posting personal information or photos at social networking sites may expose one to physical danger.)
e) No one other than the RMLHS administration and/or staff may create or publish a web site that claims to represent RMLHS in any way. Images of students may be used on official websites.
