Solutions Center:  Pro Bono Consulting Round II
Do you wish to speed up implementation of climate solutions at your campus?  Are your faculty, staff, and students calling for action?

Colleges and universities that are active signatories to one of the Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments and/or are members of the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3) are eligible to apply for pro bono technical assistance using this application form.  Second Nature will award free services to as many as six campuses.  These campuses will receive pro bono renewable energy strategic advisory services valued up to $10,000.

When preparing your application, it is strongly recommended that applicants prepare the answers to the questions in a separate document.  This makes it easier to confirm word counts, check for grammar and spelling mistakes, share drafts with colleagues, etc.  Once you are ready to submit, then simply copy and paste your responses into this Google Form.

Please note the word limits. In your responses, please provide compelling details with respect to who, what, where, when, why & how. If the limit for a question is 250 or 500 words, but your response is only 25 words, then it may be harder for your campus to rise to the top in the competitive process.

Information about the program is available online at https://secondnature.org/pro-bono_roundtwo.

This initiative is to support action in:
(1) Climate Action Planning:  Winning campuses will receive advisory services to support the drafting of a climate action plan or the revisions to an existing plan and an executive presentation to your campus leadership.  This service is provided by Brailsford & Dunlavey.

(2) Shifting to Renewable Power:  Winning campuses will receive advisory services to support a transition to renewable power. The pro bono assistance will assess the institutions' energy situation, identify renewable energy solutions, and recommend next steps for implementing one or more of the solutions. This service is provided by CustomerFirst Renewables.

Review criteria include but are not limited to:
• Involvement of key stakeholders
• Meaningful impact on reducing GHG emissions
• Potential for scaled impact and potential cost savings
• Potential for development of long-term campus relationships
• Potential to demonstrate / elevate the role of campuses as an accelerator of climate action

Only campuses that are active, dues-paying contributors to Second Nature are eligible to participate in this competition.  If you are uncertain of the status of your campus, please contact Steve Muzzy (see below).

On Question 2, answer 2A or 2B, not both.  If your campus wishes to apply for both types of pro bono consulting services, you should submit two separate applications, as your answer to many of the questions may be different depending on your proposed actions with respect to climate planning or energy purchasing.

The application period begins on December 1, 2021. The final deadline for submission is January 5, 2022.

Implementation is likely to take place in Q2 and Q3 of 2022.
