About the teacher, Brooke McCarthy: I am an actor, singer, teacher, & creator originally from NJ and recent transplant to Duluth, GA. I graduated from UGA with my MFA in Acting where I had Meisner training and also taught Meisner to my students. Website:
www.brookemccarthy.comWhy Meisner? I believe Meisner’s approach to acting provides a strong foundation for live performance because it allows students to truly be in the moment by training actors' natural instincts. I am interested in exploring ways to intersect Meisner’s work with musicals and also to keep my students' performance skills keen by ongoing scene study/training. In my personal experience, I have found myself so caught up in how I sound when singing or how my acting is coming across, that I lose the ability to be in the moment of the story. Meisner’s methodology can provide students with practical tools for staying in the moment whether singing or speaking text.
