Sleeping in the Forest

I thought the earth
remembered me, she
took me back so tenderly, arranging
her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds. I slept
as never before, a stone
on the riverbed, nothing
between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated
light as moths among the branches
of the perfect trees. All night
I heard the small kingdoms breathing
around me, the insects, and the birds
who do their work in the darkness. All night
I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling
with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.

This piece was woven by me, here at my home-studio in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico on a warp of organic cotton-linen and a weft of hand dyed raw silk.

Technicalities - It is 3.7m in length with extensive tapestry weaving throughout and hand twined fringe on each end.  

I am happy to work out a payment plan if needed.  Shipping will be calculated based on your location, I accept paypal, Venmo or other analog forms of exchange.

This sale may be subject to taxes upon arrival in an international country. Buyer will be responsible for any additional fees.

As always, this piece is meticulously hand crafted from start to finish by me, Jeannie Ortiz. Because of its handmade nature, and the naturally slubby nature of raw silk, there may be some minor variations in the fabric.
