Expert Inputs for PTA's Gender Inclusion Strategy for ICTs
Women in Pakistan are 33% less likely to own a mobile and use mobile Internet. Pakistan has one of the widest gender gap in mobile ownership of all countries surveyed by Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) in its 2021 mobile gender gap report, with only half of women owning a mobile phone compared to three-quarters of men. To tackle this gap, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is developing a national strategy for  Gender Inclusion in Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs). This brief survey is being conducted by PTA to solicit inputs from industry experts, civil society members, tech community leaders, gender and digital rights advocates, legal fraternity and other stakeholders. Your inputs will help us make the strategy more informed and inclusive.  The strategy is being developed with joint efforts from UNESCO Pakistan to support PTA in its mission to address the digital gender divide. We hope that this strategy will facilitate the inclusion of Pakistani women in the digital world and help them gain equal access and equal opportunities. GSMA is also supporting this effort in a technical capacity.
We thank you for taking out the time to share your valuable inputs with us. If you have any questions or want to give further feedback, please reach out to us at genderinclusion@pta.gov.pk . We also welcome any additional written submissions you may wish to make.
With your support and advice we hope to play our part in moving towards a digitally equal Pakistan.
