UJLEP 2024 - Utah Global Diplomacy Homestay Host Form

If you are willing and able to host a UJLEP Fellow from May 10 to June 9, please fill out the following form. For this program only, Utah Global Diplomacy is pleased to be able to provide homestay hosts with $1,700/fellow to help defray the cost of hosting. 

(NOTE: If you have existing plans to travel out of state for a weekend in that timeframe, we can likely make alternative short-term arrangements for your visitor. Please indicate any conflicts below.)

Expectations for the UJLEP Program

  • Brief homestay host cultural sensitivity training before the fellows' arrival
  • A clean, private bedroom and bathroom
  • Breakfast and dinners on most days.
  • Possible cultural activities on the weekend.
  • If you are not close to public transportation, you may need to drop fellows off at the transit hub closest to your residence on weekdays.

Hosting Preferences
All UJLEP Fellows are between the ages of 21 and 35 and have undergone a rigorous selection process.

How many UJLEP fellows would you be willing and able to accommodate? Each fellow needs a private bedroom.  *
Are you comfortable hosting a UJLEP fellow who smokes? Both Utah Global Diplomacy and IREX Staff will ensure that UJLEP fellows who smoke understand that they must not do so indoors or in any location that offends a host.  *
Are you willing to cook halal meals for any fellow(s) you may host? (No pork, pork products, alcohol, gelatin, or cross-contamination with non-halal foods) *
Do you have any pets? If so, please list what kind and their approximate size. (Some visitors have allergies or are uncomfortable around animals.) *
Do you have existing travel plans that conflict with the hosting period? (May 10 - June 9) If yes, please provide details. 
Please provide the name, gender, age, and occupation of all household members.  *
Please write a one-paragraph, third-person biography that would help an international visitor get a sense of who you are. 

For example, "Nick and Kayla Merrill have been married for 5 years and they have a young son named Ellis. Nick works at Utah Global Diplomacy managing international exchange programs and Kayla runs a vintage clothing resale business. Nick, Kayla, and Ellis love to frequent their local library and take bike rides together. They are thrilled to welcome international visitors into their home and hope to make their time in the United States enjoyable and memorable."

Background Check Information and Consent
(Note, a background check will not be required for those who have hosted in the last year.)
In order to become a homestay host, you will need to pass a background check. Utah Global Diplomacy contracts with HireRight for background check services. To keep your sensitive information secure, Utah Global Diplomacy will conduct this check with you over the phone. The whole process should take between 5-7 minutes.
