Masterclasses are international events which provide an authentic research experience. The Dark Matter Masterclass is a one-day event where high school and college students will learn and practice science through lectures and hands-on analysis of data from dark matter experiments.

The topic of this year's masterclass is dark matter. We know that the majority of the mass in our universe is something different from the "normal" matter we interact with in our lives. Astronomers call it "dark matter" because it does not create light like normal matter. How to explain dark matter is one of the great outstanding questions in science. During the masterclass students will learn about existing theories to explain dark matter, and the experiments that constrain our ideas of what is possible.

Students will enjoy a pizza lunch with UNF physics faculty and dark matter researchers.

The Masterclass will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the University of North Florida Physics Building (Building 50, room 1102). Campus map: https://maps.unf.edu
