This spring, as part of its volunteer leadership program, PAVE-UW is organizing a community mural titled "What does it mean to be a survivor at UW-Madison?" to highlight the survivor experience at UW-Madison and underscore UW-Madison's backward Title IX policies. The community mural will consist of sticky notes featuring student experiences, intertwined with your thoughts and concerns about Title IX policies and messages of support for survivors on campus. While it will be open to the community to share their experiences when it is on display, due to COVID-19, we also welcome online submissions that our volunteers can write down for you.

For some background, Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972, which protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. UW-Madison is under the Trump's administration's Title IX policy which was enacted on August 14th, 2020 and has been changed by President Biden. UW-Madison follows their own set of policies regarding sexual assault and discrimination based on sex on campus through this Title IX policy in addition to the Trump era policies that narrow the scope of sexual assault and give "due" process to the accused at the expense of the victim. The Volunteer Leadership Program would absolutely love to know your thoughts on the Trump administration's Title IX policies and UW-Madison's choice to continue to hold on to them.
