School Permissions
We do so many fun things at preschool. Many of the permissions below are a part of our daily program. However, they require parent acknowledgement/permission in order to take place. Please do not hesitate to reach out to director@magothycooperative.org with questions about specific permissions.

It is our practice through the school year to take photographs of classroom activities, parties, special events and enrichment trips which include Magothy Cooperative Preschool children, parent helpers, and possibly siblings. The photographs are posted in our private online platform, used in creating yearbooks, displayed on our photo wall in the hallway, and sometimes used inside of the classroom. I give permission for these pictures for these uses. *
Required
We also post photos of happenings in the classroom and our students on Magothy’s website and on Magothy’s Social Media pages. Our policy is to not identify the children. The children’s names would not accompany the pictures.

We upload some student artwork to Artsonia so parents and relatives can view it and purchase personalized items.  Artsonia preserves students’ privacy and anonymity by listing the artwork only under the student’s first name and a number.  Artsonia will only display comments on student artwork with parental permission.

It is our practice throughout the school year to explore on the trails in the woods behind the school, and the nearby Jacobsville Elementary fields. We will be walking on uneven ground and may encounter natural hazards such as sticker bushes and poison ivy. Children are encouraged to take reasonable risks such as balancing on fallen logs and tree stumps.

Our campus includes a vegetable garden and students may sample vegetables grown there. We also have multiple non-cultivated edible plants including mulberries, wineberries, fox grapes, sassafras, dandelion, and wood sorrel. Students may be given the chance to identify and sample these (with adult supervision) when found. *

Depending on age, students may use a variety of hand tools such as peelers, hand drills, hammers, screwdrivers, etc. Eye and hand protection will be used when needed, and safety procedures will be taught and practiced.

We engage in water play with a water table. Typically, this is a stationary table at waist level filled with 1-3 inches of water. We also fill watering cans from our rain barrels to use in watering our gardens and in the mud kitchen.

We organize some offsite enrichment trips that families may attend with their children. I or my appointed chaperone will be accompanying my child if we choose to participate.

We have several animals in permanent residence at Magothy. Animals are for viewing and at special times we may offer the children the opportunity to touch and care for the animals. Currently in residence are: fish, firebellied and eastern newts, tadpoles/frogs, hissing cockroaches, hermit crabs, a corn snake, and a painted turtle.

At times in class we may offer the option to have face paint (on the child's face or hand) as part of our day. This is often done on a day where we are pretending to be a particular animal or simply just for fun. Participating in face paint is always optional and never forced upon a student.

The playground and trails will be available outside of school hours, or during school when not in use by another class. The campus is NOT open on Sundays before noon to allow for Magothy United Methodist Church services. Children must be supervised at all times, and must always abide by school rules on campus, even outside of school hours. Playground items, bikes, etc. must be put away after use if outside of school hours.

Reminder- The school building and grounds are CLOSED on Sundays before 12:00pm, noon.
