The Kansas City PBS STEM Television Spot Contest is open to students in grades 6-12 in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.  The contest asks students to create a script for a 30-60 second television spot to air on Kansas City PBS illustrating a STEM science experiment for children ages 2-8.  

Entries are accepted May 1- May 31, 2021 by submitting a completed Entry Form or by submitting to education@kansascitypbs.org. Teachers may email multiple entries for a class as a PDF to education@kansascitypbs.org. Winner will be notified on June 15, 2021.  

** We recommend having your STEM experiment idea and script ready before beginning the submission form.

Judging:
Entries will be judged by staff from Kansas City PBS. We will be looking for creative, inspiring scripts that present the steps of a STEM experiment in an entertaining way for kids ages 2-8.

Winner:
The contest winner will receive a tour of the Kansas City PBS studios and assist in creating the spot alongside the Kansas City PBS production team.

Sample Script:
Hi I’m Katharine from the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and these are my helpers Bennett and Robert.  We are excited to participate in Be My Neighbor Days, a virtual week of kindness. Today we’re going to show you how to spread kindness in your neighborhood by planting Daffodils. First we’re going to loosen up our soil.  We are going to use our tools to dig a hole in the garden where we are going to place the bulbs. Next, we put the bulbs in the ground and cover them with soil.  Last, we pat the soil down and water the bulbs.  You will be sure to put a smile on your neighbor’s faces with these flowers in the Spring!  Now it’s your turn to get planting!
