Data Visualization Society Programs Committee Application
The Programs Committee supports the DVS portfolio of initiative and activities designed to support members, including data viz enthusiasts, early career practitioners, and more experienced data visualization professionals and experts. The team coordinates and runs programs including fireside chats, data visualization challenges, the State of the Industry Survey, and the mentorship program (launching in 2022).
The Programs Committee is organized into three sub-committees:
State of the Industry Survey Committee: Discuss, plan, and prepare for the launch of the annual State of the Industry Survey. Includes incorporating lessons learned from prior years and developing and testing questions on timely topics. Could include brainstorming on data cleaning and reporting processes.
Mentorship Program Committee: Help coordinate the launch and inaugural Mentorship Program to include communicating with mentors and mentees, matching mentees with suitable mentors, engaging mentors and mentees in private Slack channels, and evaluating the successes and challenges of the program.
Fireside Chat Committee: Brainstorm ideas, questions, and panelists for upcoming Fireside Chats. This could include partnering with other committees to champion current topics of interest, reviewing Slack conversations with an eye toward needed or popular content, or outreach to members (e.g., via Slack) to assess needs.
Committee positions are open to any DVS members interested in volunteering their time! Typically, a committee member should be able to donate 4-6 hours per month, and responsibilities will vary depending on the committee. Duties for all committees include participating in online committee meetings and associated Slack channels.
