Educators Plz Explain Spirit Days
Are you an educator? Do you have feelings about spirit days? I'm talking about the "100 Days of School," the PJ days, the theme days, actual holidays with big class-wide expectations attached, all of it — I want to hear more. I'll collect various responses and put them together in a piece with a similar format to this one.

We can keep you anonymous because everyone here knows what happens when a teacher says anything on the record. I'll collect email addresses *only in case I need to get in touch to clarify something* — I will not share them in any way, and no one else has access to this form.

Can you broadly explain your position and location? (e.g., "5th Grade Teacher in Wisconsin," "Vice-Principal in the Southeast," "Recently Retired Special Ed. Teacher in Idaho")
About how many spirit days / events are there at your school every year? If there's one you like, why? If there's one that drives you bonkers, why?
Why are there EVEN MORE spirit days than ever before? Can you explain the philosophy behind spirit days — and whether or not that ethos actually translates in action?
Spirit days create work for parents — and a lot of educators are parents, too. But it's also work for the educators themselves to handle kids whose parents forgot, don't want to participate, or don't have the means to participate (in, say, buying a five new pairs of pajamas). How have you come to think of the "labor" of spirit?
When and how does this end? (and/or when and how do we put a cap on it???)
